Since 2023, Ying has started learning and playing modular synthesizers, composing with them, and combining them with the violin. This allows her to constantly explore new sounds and draw inspiration from the versatility of sequences in modular synthesizers. Together with her band, she creates a listening experience that blends experimental, electronic, free improvisation, and jazz elements, striving for a unique form of expression.
In June 2024, Ying Yang performed her first concert with her newly formed band. In November of the same year, she and her band recorded their first tracks in a studio. These recordings include both her own compositions and the improvisations of the band members. Starting in 2025, the recordings will be gradually released as digital albums or EPs. The video recordings will also be released afterward.
Ying draws inspiration for her compositions from the atmosphere of nature, which she captures through her synthesizer performances. Her creative process is deeply influenced by the teachings of the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zhou, whose Taoist philosophy emphasizes freedom, living in harmony with nature, and transcending prejudices and worldly constraints. Concepts such as the „equality of all things“ and „non-interference“ (Wu Wei) play a central role in her work.
Ying seeks to convey these ideas through her music and expressive artistry: she emphasizes the liberation of the individual spirit and the infinite possibilities of life. She opposes anthropocentric prejudices and advocates for the equality of diverse identities, genders, and forms of existence. Ying rejects societal constraints and conventions that limit people based on their gender or identity.
